Pull the tab aside and the key blade will slide out. You'll find a slot on the bottom of the cover the same width as the key blade. Pull the door handle and hold it in the open position, then insert the key blade and use it to pull the cover outwards and off. Release the door handle, then turn the key anti-clockwise to unlock the door.

As my wife shut her door and before I had a chance to put the key in the ignition, the doors locked and the alarm went off. I used the remote to cancel it. I suspected the 5 year old remote might be the problem, so today I used the unused spare key. Now the remote locks all doors etc properly, but will only open the drivers door.
She's an early Mk1 (1999) without a remote fob, so the central locking should work from either of the front door locks, or the boot. Currently the drivers door lock only unlocks/locks the drivers door and the boot. The front passenger door lock only locks/unlocks that door. The boot lock just locks/unlocks the boot. It's impossible to open
